„The future of our society is innovation. The basic ressources are skilled people and modern infrastructure. You just add some money and the innovation process is on its way. In history there was never a lack of money but sometimes a lack of well-defined innovation projects.“

Financing of international projects has significantly changed over the last years.

As accessibility to bank financing has become more challenging, other sources of financing became more important: insurance financing, financing through capital markets (bonds, convertible bonds) and funds.

Regional focus has also changed from financing from the country of origin (Austria) to a broader perspective (e.g. Poland, Russia in the case of Warimpex)

In the real estate sector, only a part of the intellectual property can be legally protected (e.g. our hotel Brands andel's and angelo), the main part consists of specific know-how (regional, financial, technical know-how of integrating different asset classes, e.g. hotel combined with apartments). However, intellectual property is an important asset, also with regards to innovative financing models, being part of the success story that opens certain financing sources.

It’s becoming clearer and clearer that you won’t get very far with isolated knowledge. The system expertise is one of our strengths and we have to focus on that asset. A suitable example of our system expertise is the area of energy supply. In that field we have the necessary domain knowledge – which means technological knowledge in the areas that are most relevant for the future.

"Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) represent a key asset of many of the most successful companies today.

They represent a unique untapped source to provide companies with the funds they need for their investments to grow their business.

While traditional banks seldom accept an IPR as a collateral for debt financing, new financing models are emerging (e.g. sale-and-lease-back transactions of IPRs) driven by private equity investors looking for a good risk-return investment."

“Europe has to ensure a right balance between short-term goals and long-term visions on its path to sustainable economic growth and long-term competitiveness. Thinking long-term, one crucial task is to provide a smooth transition to knowledge-based society. Despite Europe’s strong position in the development of new technologies, including key enabling technologies, it suffers from its weakness in translating its knowledge base into goods and services. Investment in research and innovation with reinforced focus on innovation and commercialisation of new technologies is critical for Europe if it does not want to be side-lined by new actors in the global game. “

“Facing multiple challenges (aging infrastructure, increasing use of alternative fuels, sustainability etc.) as a motorway operator and keeping in mind our vision to offer a high-level service (availability, security and traffic information) to our customers we notice that focussed investment in research and development is needed more than ever. As Head of the department Strategy, International Relations and Innovation of ASFINAG I am pleased to present you a short overview of infrastructure research in our company underlined by a few examples of our current research activities (focus: intelligent transport systems) during the Icon Vienna 2013.
I’m looking forward to an interesting discussion leading to the identification of possible co-operations.”

"Intellectual Property Rights [IPRs] such as Brands, Patents and Designs are often used as national economies’ performance indicators. But most national “General Accounting Practices” [GAP] and/or bank credit ratings do not accept IPRs as assets in contrary to International Finance Reporting Standards [IFRS]. Further they are rarely perceived as a key to strategic business-plan models. From my entrepreneurial practice of Qualitative Growth through Innovation and Internationalization I would like to oppose some barely recognized value adding aspects of IPRs to their discredits for usually long and not always fully predictable time to market."

“In the course of last decades, the Dominican Republic has transformed deeply.

Traditionally dominated by agricultural production, our economy is today based in manufacturing, value-added services and the increasing mining sector, showing strong growth and stability. It is, indeed, a source of national pride as well as a draw for foreign investors.

The Dominican Republic is well known for its wonderful sunny white-sand beaches…But actually besides its world recognized tourism sector, our country is the leader in exporting of high-quality organic cocoa and bananas to the European Union and the No.1 producer of fine cigars, café and rum.

The Dominican Republic has a lot to offer to those companies who are seeking to become more competitive in today’s global economy: an ideal geographical location in the Caribbean Basin, excellent market access, world-class infrastructure, a flexible and training workforce, and a government that views itself as an ally of the private sector and looks to ensure the best operating conditions for business.

We are looking forward to meet you during the upcoming iconvienna Forum!”

„To live up the vision of creating a needs-based and sustainable infrastructure for tomorrow, focussed investment in research and development is inevitable. For the further development of our core areas (planning & construction, operation and tolling) as well as the services for our clients (information, safety and availability) ASFINAG focusses on national and international co-operation and is today one of Europe’s leading motorway network operators. The participation at the Icon Vienna will give us the chance to enlarge our international network.”

“European businesses must make a commitment to long and short-term partnerships, especially when collaborating with resource rich, know-how scarce countries even when the path forward is unclear and changing. Prospectiuni is an advocate of lasting change, striving to share Europe’s wealth of knowledge with our international partners worldwide. Success comes with great responsibility, and ours is to provide format and structure for collaborative business while pursuing global development.”

"Investment efficiency depends on the right choice of investment object and its competent management.

The choice of investment object should be based on the evaluation of investment attractiveness of the area. The evaluation includes a set of parameters that reveal the development of the area and potential risks of the investment project.

Operating control of the investment project should use current, accurate and complete information during the project for timely corrective actions.

Analytical tool iMonitoring offers an innovative approach to the management of investment objects based on modern information technology."
